* 18/10/2026 26.2 (this section has the changes after rc1, the release candidate below lists everything new
  before)
- Nix: flake.nix in the repository - "nix run github:qtdmm/QtDMM" starts QtDMM, "nix develop" gives a shell
to build it; on NixOS the udev rule comes with services.udev.packages (see INSTALL)

* 12/10/2026 26.2-rc1 (first release candidate for 26.2)
- New main window: display, analog meter, graph and readings table are windows in one area, arranged
automatically ("Displays on top", "Displays on the left"), fixed or freely. In the arranged modes the gaps
between the windows can be dragged, and Ctrl+drag (or the title bar) swaps two windows; the layout is
remembered. In Free mode Ctrl+drag moves a window, also one without title bar
- Workspaces: the window layout can be saved to and loaded from a file (Arrange menu); "Save layout on exit"
can be switched off to always start with the same layout
- Designs System, Silver and Dark; the window grows with the content when a view is shown (also for a view
shown while it was maximized, when it comes back)
- Colour variants for the LCD (classic, backlight blue, amber, high contrast, custom) and the graph
(neutral, scope blue, phosphor, chart recorder, custom)
- Symbols: coloured (KDE's Oxygen, the default), plain (KDE's Breeze, light and dark) or, on Linux and BSD,
the desktop's icon theme - Settings, Appearance, Symbols. They replace the XPM icons
- The tip-of-the-day dialog is gone
- APPA 501/502/503/505/506/506B/507/208/208B and their relatives (BENNING MM 12, Sefram 7351/7352B, KPS DMM9000BT,
Voltcraft VC-930/VC-950, ISO-TECH IDM503/505, CMT 3503), all "*", over the optical cable: new protocols AppaDmm and
Appa500 after libsigrok's appa-dmm, main and sub display; the overload words OL/OLA/OLV/OLVA are an overload
- Luxmeters UNI-T UT382 and Benetech GM1020, both "*": new unit lx (and fc, foot-candle) and quantity illuminance;
the GM1020 also gives its temperature as second value. Protocols after github.com/parametrek/gm1020
- SCPI server: also over HiSLIP (VISA: NI-VISA, LabVIEW, PyVISA-py), TCPIP::host::hislip0::INSTR on port 4880,
switched on in Settings, SCPI server. No extra rights needed
- Sidebar: node Services with the SCPI server and HiSLIP (port, off or failed, green dot with a client, double
click for the settings, Copy address); the SCPI field in the status bar is gone. *STB? reports bit 2 (EAV) while
  errors are queued
- 19 more meters (all "*", not tried on hardware): Victor 70C/86C, Voltcraft VC 850, EZA EZ-735 (FS9922); Brymen
  BM255, Greenlee DM-210A (BM25x); Elma BM869s, Greenlee DM-860A, Sanwa PC7000 (BM86x); Brymen BM521s, Elma BM525s
  (BM52x); Brymen BM821s/822s/827s, Elma BM821s/829s, Greenlee DM-810A/820A/830A (BM82x)
- Protek 504/505/506 are gone from the model list: they were listed with the wrong protocol (FS9721 instead of
  an ASCII line)
- Agilent/Keysight U1231A to U1282A handheld meters (21 models, "*") over the IR-USB cable U1173A/B: new
protocol KeysightU12xx, polled with CONF? and FETC? as libsigrok's agilent-dmm does
- USB-HID cables: when the path changed (another /dev/hidraw number after plugging in again or a restart; on
Windows and macOS another path) QtDMM finds the cable again by its USB ids if it is the only one of its kind.
The udev rule also makes a stable link per cable and USB port, /dev/qtdmm/<cable>-<port>, which the port list
  shows instead of /dev/hidrawN
- Thermometers: UNI-T UT325 (UT321, UT322, Tenma 72-7712/72-7715 "*") over the HE2325U USB cable, which now also
sends (the UT325 needs a start byte), and MASTECH MS6514 "*" with its second display. Temperatures in kelvin as
the meters show them. Until QtDMM reads several channels only the large display / main and auxiliary display
- Graph: time buttons All / 1 min / 5 min / 30 min at the top right
- Readings table: columns fit their content, the time without the date
- Digital display: HOLD is an H in a square at the right of the annunciators, MANU is gone (AUTO off is a
manual range, as on the meters), a "+" between AC and DC lights for AC+DC
- Meter keys under the display with a fold button: UNI-T UT60BT, UT61B+/D+/E+ and UT161 - SELECT, RANGE,
AUTO, HOLD, REL and LIGHT (the UT61x+ also Hz/%, MIN/MAX and PEAK) press the meter's keys; the states
light up as the meter reports them, holding MIN/MAX or PEAK leaves it
- Bluetooth GATT meters (UT60BT, UT161, UT-D07B): QtDMM looks for the meter before it connects, so it
connects again after a restart (before, only right after the meter had been found by the assistant)
- Defaults for a new configuration: design Dark, LCD backlight blue, analog meter classic ivory, graph scope
blue, LCD without min/max. The design can also be chosen in the settings (Appearance)
- Recorder: the pre-trigger works (it was a setting without function). A recording started by a threshold
reaches back by the pre-trigger time, a green mark shows the trigger
- Graph: Live, Record and View. The graph runs right after connecting (the last recording length, newest at
the right edge); Record (one button, grey dot / red square, Space) clears it and records, "● REC 0:42 /
10:00" top left; a recording that ended or a file imported stands to zoom, save and export. Live, a new
recording and an import ask about unsaved readings first; the clock time and the threshold start wait in
Live only, the pre-trigger takes its seconds from the live graph
- Record asks for the length of the recording, the last one ready - Enter starts it, ∞ records until stopped.
The length (Sample time) is no longer on the Recording page
- Recorder: Max. length is gone. A recording keeps all its readings from the start, up to two million; one
longer than Max. length (1 hour by default) lost its beginning without a word. Live without a recording
length is as wide as the visible window, the time buttons go as far as there is a recording, and while
recording the graph follows the newest reading until you scroll back
- Texts: "recorder" is "recording" or "graph" in the tool tips, the status bar says "Recording" while it
records; old tool tips (export as tab separated list, F2 for the recorder options) describe what QtDMM does now
- Record works right after a meter is connected by Add device, the sidebar or the start; it stayed off until
  Connect was clicked by hand
- Shortcuts in function keys: F3 Connect, F4 reset min/max, F8 settings (Shift+F8 the device, Ctrl+F8
  Recording), F10 title bars; Ctrl+C only copies, Ctrl+D, Ctrl+S, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+G, Ctrl+L and Ctrl+R are gone
- Sidebar: F2 renames the selected device or stopped instance, as Rename in the context menu
- Poincaré plot: a meter showing the same value all the time (0.0 mV) got an axis of 1e-12 with endless
decimals; the axis now spans ten digits of the display around it
- Settings open on General, not on the page left last time; Configure in the graph's menu opens the Graph
  page
- Graph: the vertical axis takes its prefix from its range, not from the last reading; a meter switching
between V and mV turned the whole axis to mV with labels like 1.6e+04
- Analog meter: MIN and MAX with no more digits than the display has, and from another range in a prefix of
their own with the unit ("10.000 V" in the mV range, not "10000.0000")
- Toolbar in groups - device (Add device, Devices, Connect, reset Min/Max), windows (display, analog meter,
table, Poincaré, graph), recording (Record, Live, Clear), file (Export, Import, Print) - with clearer
symbols: Add device with a +, an eraser for Clear (it was a red X, like close), Export and Import of their own
- Status bar: "Simulated" or "Calculated" instead of the formula, no "Using ..." after a switch
- Live starts with "All": the graph fills with what there is instead of a needle at the left of a long window;
without a recording length Live keeps an hour at most
- Graph: the time begins with the first reading - the curve starts at 0, also when the meter took a while to
  connect or after Clear
- Device settings and the assistant: no frames; the fixed port parameters and protocol of a known model are no
longer shown (they were greyed under "Advanced"), manual settings show them at once - also when a model is
  chosen after manual settings
- "QtDMM Virtual meter" is "Simulated meter" (a new entry: "Simulated meter"); old configurations keep
working. SCPI *IDN? says "QtDMM Simulated meter"
- A recording started by an alarm, SCPI INITiate or another instance (All instances) no longer clears one
that is not saved yet, and no longer starts one running afresh: the status bar says why, SCPI gets -213
- Record asks in a larger window, with "Until Stop" as a choice of its own and a word on a start at a clock time
  or threshold
- Sidebar: "+ Add device..." at the end of My devices
- The greeting for configurations from before version 0.8.4 and the note on converted ~/.qtdmmrc files are gone
- Toolbars are always shown and fixed: the switches for the DMM, graph and file toolbars and the right-click menu
that hid them are gone (a toolbar hidden before comes back); "Symbols with text" is on the Appearance page
- Settings: opening the dialog no longer disconnects the meter and no longer stops a recording; OK and Apply
open the port again only when the meter changed (before, every OK reconnected - seconds for a Bluetooth meter -
and reconnected a meter you had disconnected yourself). The gap this left in the graph was drawn as a line
- Graph: where the meter fell silent the line no longer bridges the gap. In a long recording or Live with "All",
a pause of minutes was now and then drawn as a straight line, so a part of the curve seemed to come and go; and
the newest reading was drawn twice when the window grew with it
- Settings dialog tidied: six pages - General, Appearance (now with "Symbols with text"), Graph (colours, line,
Y axis, time axis and the integration curve, whose section opens when it is switched on), Recording,
Alarms, SCPI server. Section titles without frames, one column, fields that belong to a choice show up
with it, the explanations in tool tips, a narrower page list with plain symbols; "Reset page" instead of
  "Factory defaults"
- Poincaré plot (Ctrl+5): each reading against the next, so the scatter of a value shows at a glance -
noise across the diagonal, drift along it, with SD1 and SD2 and their ellipse. Distance, number of points,
hold and image export in its context menu
- Add device (the device symbol in the toolbar): how the meter is connected, then for a cable, Bluetooth or the network
a search there - every port found, the recognised meters first: the meter family of a USB cable, the
  Bluetooth meters and Victron devices, the chip of a USB-serial adapter, the ports of qtdmm-bridge (mDNS;
Find bridges on the Special ports page is gone); a device QtDMM may not open says why, with the fix -,
which meter it is with a name, then this window or a new one; it is kept in My devices, one found there is
changed instead of added twice. A window without a meter (the first start) shows only a big Add device
button and skips the question where the device goes; the welcome dialog is gone - to try QtDMM without a
  meter, choose Simulated
- Linux packages install a udev rule for the USB-HID cables and sensors (70-qtdmm.rules)
- My devices: your meters with their connections, kept for all windows in devices.conf, in the sidebar
Devices at the left: a click switches (a running recording stops), the one in use shows whether readings
come in; Settings, Rename, Open in a new window and Remove in its context menu, drag to reorder. The sidebar
opens with the second device and in a window without a meter when there are devices; Devices in the toolbar
(F9) shows and hides it. Its node Instances lists the instances with their reading and device: a click
brings one to the front, a double click starts a stopped one, which can also be renamed - the formulas that use it follow - and
deleted. The instances dialog is gone. Serial ports are kept under their /dev/serial/by-id name.
An entry keeps what its way of connecting needs; Find device recognises a saved device by its place (by-id
name or ttyUSB, a USB cable plugged in again, a Bluetooth address), connects it without a second entry and
says which window uses a port
- Settings dialog: the pages Multimeter and Special ports are gone - a meter is set up with Add device and
changed with Settings... in the sidebar (Shift+F2 for the one in use). A new first page General holds
what happens at program exit (unsaved data, window position and size) and the path of sigrok-cli; the rest
stays on Appearance. Ports entered on Special ports before are still offered
- Graph: the vertical axis in the unit the meter shows (350 mV, not 0.35 V); the status bar says what the
  third time is ("1:59:17 left")
- Readings table: the columns are measured again after a design or font change, so no cell is cut off
- Readings table: min, max, mean and span only over the readings of the current function; after a switch from
Ω to mV the old ohms showed as "Max 611 V"
- Releases carry the source as QtDMM-<version>.tar.gz, with a fixed checksum for distributions (#184)
- Recorder: keeps every reading of the meter with its time, instead of sampling the last value ten times a
second. Short spikes are no longer lost, a slow meter is no longer drawn as steps, and the integral is one
over time (unit x s; a scale from before is converted once). The export still uses the sample time as its
grid, now the time-weighted mean of each interval; the new file type "CSV, every reading" exports every
reading at its time, and the import keeps the times
- Graph: an overload (OL) or a meter that stopped sending is a gap in the curve, no longer a 0 or the last
value drawn on; the cursor says "OL" or "no value" there. The average of a sample time is taken over the
values there were, the integral carries over a gap
- Recording: switching the meter to another function (V DC to Ω, DC to AC, °C to °F) stops the recording
with a message and a mark in the graph, so one recording never mixes two quantities. A stopped recording
keeps its unit, also in the export (it was relabelled with the new unit). A prefix change (mV to V) goes on
- Min/max: a range change (mV to V, kΩ to MΩ) keeps them; they start afresh only when the meter switches to
another function (V DC to Ω, DC to AC, °C to °F) - before, every change of unit cleared them
- LCD and analog meter fade the value when the meter stops sending, and are back as soon as a value arrives
- Graph: long recordings are drawn with a minimum and a maximum per pixel column, so a spike stays visible
and the drawing stays fast; the grid and labels are there before the first value
- Export: a gap is "nan" in CSV (as older versions wrote an overload) and an empty cell in XLSX/ODS; on
import "nan" is a gap again instead of a 0
- Temperature: no bar graph, the analog scale follows the values (1-2-5)
- Same bezel thickness for the LCD and the analog meter
- Analog meter: the red zone's band on the arc is paler, so the red labels and the min/max marks stand out;
the scale arc runs through it and is its outer edge. ppm and % start at zero also with the scale Centre zero
- Settings: the mouse wheel over a list or number field scrolls the page instead of changing the value
(scrolling down Appearance could switch the analog meter to Centre zero)
- Settings dialog: Factory defaults sits at the bottom left, beside OK and Cancel; the dialog is as tall as
its tallest page (within the screen), so the pages need no scroll bar
- Recorder: connecting again no longer clears the recording - after the settings dialog, or after an alarm
program with Disconnect first, the readings were gone without a question; a new start clears it. An
alarm program with Disconnect first no longer stops the recording: the time it has the port is a gap. Switching
to another device in the sidebar (or with the assistant, or by changing the one in use) asks about unsaved
readings first, and so do Clear and Clear graph in the graph's menu; Cancel stays with the device
- An empty window stays empty after OK in the settings dialog (it counted as set up and tried to connect
without a port, also at every start)
- Recorder: while waiting for a threshold, another function crosses nothing (0 V, then 1000 Ω over 5), and
the pre-trigger keeps no readings of the function before
- Recording in all instances: after a recording that ended without Stop (its length, a switch to another
device), the next "All instances" started none, not even the own one - the command was the same as the
last one and went unnoticed. Start and stop are new commands each time now
- My devices: a simulated meter no longer counts as using a port. Entries saved before kept the port of
the meter before (the UT61E's), so Open in a new window - from the sidebar or the assistant - took the
real meter for "in use" and opened nothing; new entries keep their formula as their device
- Add device: symbol and text of the tiles (and of the big Add device button) sit together in the middle;
the target page says "In this window - as the current device"
- AppImage: built with linuxdeploy and its Qt plugin, so it brings Qt, the Qt plugins (platform, SVG
symbols, image formats) and a RUNPATH to them along. Before it ran only where a fitting Qt 6 was
installed; the libraries copied in were never used. The Linux CI checks the AppImage for that
- Licences: the symbol sets Oxygen and Breeze are LGPL-3.0-or-later. Packages carry their licence texts
(Linux share/licenses/qtdmm, Windows licenses\, macOS inside the bundle), the RPM, PKGBUILD and AppStream
name GPL-3.0-or-later AND LGPL-3.0-or-later, and the About box names Oxygen too
- Man page: the example instance name works in formulas (psu, not power-supply); devices.conf under FILES
- Instances: renaming refuses a name that differs from another only in case; the message says the running
instances take the new formula after a restart (not after reconnecting), and they no longer write the old one
back into My devices. Open in a new window brings the window that already uses the device to the front
- Virtual meter and calculated values: rounded like an autoranging meter (9.640 V on a 40000 count model,
not 9.6402), so the analog meter shows the 40 V range instead of 0..4 with OL
- SCPI: CONF? answers CONT for continuity (it said RES); READ? on "-OL" gives -9.9E37
- Readings table: the Mode column names the quantity (Frequency, Duty cycle, ...) where it showed the meter's
  code (HZ, PC, ...)
- UNI-T UT71/UT804 (VC940 protocol): AC+DC readings are shown as AC+DC (they showed as AC)
- Voltcraft VC870: °F on the second display was read as farad
- sigrok-cli: a reading without unit is continuity
- Import: the recording length is counted in seconds (a 54 s recording was taken for 542 s)
- Update from 26.1: the window layout starts fresh. The analog meter is shown and the readings table is
hidden, whatever 26.1 had; the new layout is saved from then on
- Alarms: Disconnect first - the port is closed while the alarm's program runs and opened again after it, so the
program can use the meter itself. The settings page External application is gone: an alarm with a condition
and a program does what it did (its settings are not taken over)
- Settings, Multimeter: the port parameters and the protocol are under Advanced, closed for a known model
- Quitting and Apply in the settings no longer connect the meter (quitting connected a Bluetooth meter twice)
- A Bluetooth meter that stays half connected (a UT60BT now and then) is tried again after 10 s, not 20 s
- SCPI: STAT:QUES? bit 2 and INPut? follow the connection: a meter lost and reconnecting (a Bluetooth meter
switched off) is not connected; INPut OFF also ends the reconnecting. An old reading no longer sets the
  overload and hold bits
- Linux AppImage: Qt's own texts (OK / Cancel, Ctrl, file dialogs) are translated too. The AppImage needs
glibc 2.38 or newer (Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 13), see Troubleshooting

* 04/10/2026 26.1 (the first release since 0.9.8; this section has the changes after rc2, the two release
candidates below list everything new before)
Display and recording
- Analog meter: MIN and MAX readouts (the left one read CURRENT before), no percent arc, the unit on the dial
and written as the digital display does (kΩ, °C), long unit labels such as "V DIODE" fit, the bipolar
scale is counted from 0, readouts without "-0"
- Digital display and readings table: leading zeros of the meter's reading stay dark ("0.00", not
"000.00"), the minus always in front of the digits, as on the meter
- Graph: the background reaches the edges and the scrollbar takes the graph's colours; SVG export fills the
requested size; an imported recording shows at once
- Integration curve starts at 0 (it started at the threshold, a vertical line at the left edge)
- The external program at a threshold runs again (it did not start since the move to Qt 6)
- Record button: a red dot instead of the "back to start" arrow
- Menus and settings: no Alt letter used twice in one menu or page, in all languages

Meters
- sigrok-cli meters: continuity readings are no longer dropped; resistance and temperature units match the
other meters (Ω, °C, °F); auto range is recognised wherever sigrok lists it
- Mastech/ELV M9803R, McVoice M-980T: values in mV, kΩ, nF and other prefixed ranges reach the recorder and
the readings table in base units (123.4 mV was recorded as 123.4 V)
- PeakTech 451: readings are decoded correctly (the frame was read one byte off)
- Brymen BM869s/BM867s/BM525s/BM829s, Voltcraft GDM 703-705, Victron: the second value (e.g. Hz next to
V AC) shows in the display, not only in the readings table; it no longer carries the main value's mode
("2nd PO"); readings table without empty "2nd" rows (also Voltcraft VC870)
- Radio Shack 22-812: readings without a prefix (1.234 V, 50.00 Hz) show their unit again;
Voltcraft DO3122: kΩ ranges are recognised

Platforms and packaging
- macOS: disk image (.dmg) for Apple Silicon and Intel, macOS 13 or newer; not signed with an Apple
certificate, see the handbook (Troubleshooting) for the first start
- Desktop file and icons are named after the application id io.github.qtdmm.qtdmm: launchers pinned to the
old qtdmm.desktop have to be pinned again
- API documentation for developers on GitHub Pages (qtdmm.github.io/QtDMM)
- Tests: decoder fixtures for every decoder (from real captures of a UT61E through sigrok-cli, a VC870 and
  an M9803R, the rest from the protocol documentation); a check for doubled Alt letters in all languages;
CI tests stop after 5 minutes instead of hanging

* 29/09/2026 26.1-rc2 (second release candidate for 26.1, fixes after rc1)
- AppImage: command-line options (--version, --config-id, ...) reach QtDMM again
- Settings dialog fits small screens (1080p on Windows): pages scroll, the dialog stays on screen
- Recorder: the time window no longer comes out stretched after scrolling when the sample time is not 0.1 s
- Alarm messages say "Alarm 1: ..." instead of "Alarm Alarm 1: ..."
- A new instance starts with the settings of the current one; only the meter has to be chosen
- Brymen BM869s confirmed on hardware (thanks to the tester); saved settings keep the meter
- App icon as scalable SVG (installed to hicolor/scalable on Linux/BSD); the macOS icon and a new 256 px
Windows icon entry are rendered from it
- No "could not load translation" warning under an English or C locale
- Man page rewritten: all options, files and examples, version and date from the build
- Packaging: Fedora COPR builds (thanks to tuxmaster); CMake option QTDMM_EMBED_TRANSLATIONS=OFF installs the
translations as files for distribution packages
- Build: gcc and clang warnings fixed (thanks to tuxmaster); CI builds treat warnings as errors
  (CMake option QTDMM_WERROR)
- Tests: the handbook test no longer depends on the CPU speed (failed on RISC-V)
- Security policy (SECURITY.md): report vulnerabilities privately through GitHub

* 24/09/2026 26.1-rc1 (first release candidate for 26.1; versions are now YY.N, see docs/dev/releasing.md)
Platforms, build and packaging
