documented long data.frame (repeatID, eventID,
values). It previously returned a wide matrix when
number_of_events == 1, which broke downstream callers
(create_random_distribution(),

distribution_repeater() now fails early with an
explicit message when number_of_events is not a single
positive integer, instead of erroring deep inside the pipeline.
